Who can currently apply?

The main Home Energy Scotland Grant and Loan route is aimed at owner-occupiers in Scotland. The property should be your existing home and your only or primary private residence. You do not need to receive benefits to apply.

Home Energy Scotland makes the final eligibility decision. Different support may apply to landlords, social housing, businesses or households referred through other schemes.

Six steps from funding check to installation

    Start with FLO and your home

    Share the postcode, property and current heating so funding questions stay attached to a real heat pump project.

    Check the live funding route

    Home Energy Scotland confirms household eligibility and whether the rural uplift applies to your address.

  3. 3

    Get a property-specific FLO proposal

    The system, emitter changes, cylinder, electrical work, installation scope and price should be set out clearly.

  4. 4

    Apply with the required information

    Use the FLO proposal and any other documents requested by the scheme. Funding remains subject to availability.

    Wait for the written offer

    Do not ask FLO to begin work before Home Energy Scotland issues its written funding offer.

  6. 6

    Complete the project with FLO

    Once the offer and final scope are agreed, FLO installs, commissions and supplies the project documentation.

What does the rural uplift mean?

Qualifying remote rural, island and certain off-gas accessible rural areas can receive an additional £1,500. That can increase the heat pump grant from £7,500 to £9,000 and the combined heat pump grant-and-loan ceiling from £15,000 to £16,500.

The classification is defined by the Scottish Government rather than by the installer. Home Energy Scotland can confirm whether your address qualifies.

How much heat pump grant funding is available?+

The current Home Energy Scotland scheme offers eligible homeowners up to £7,500 as a heat pump grant. A £1,500 rural and island uplift can increase the grant to £9,000.

Is there also a loan?+

An optional interest-free loan of up to £7,500 may be available alongside the standard heat pump grant, subject to the scheme terms and an administration fee.

Can work start before I apply?+

No. Home Energy Scotland says you must receive a written funding offer before work starts. An application alone does not reserve funding.

Can the grant fund a replacement heat pump?+

The current terms say replacement heat pumps are not eligible for grant funding, though loan support may be considered case by case.
