First eligibility check

You will usually need to own and live in an existing home in Scotland

The Home Energy Scotland Grant and Loan route is aimed at owner-occupiers making eligible improvements to their only or primary private residence. Home Energy Scotland—not FLO—confirms final eligibility and scheme availability.

Main points to check

  • The property is an existing home in Scotland.
  • You own and live in it as your only or primary private residence.
  • The proposal is for an eligible whole-home heat pump and associated eligible work.
  • The installer and products meet the current MCS requirements.
  • You apply and receive a written funding offer before eligible work begins.
  • You can complete the work and supply evidence within the offer period.

Do not start work based on an application alone. The current scheme requires a written funding offer first.

How much could be available?

£7,500Maximum standard heat pump grant
£9,000Maximum grant with a qualifying rural uplift
£7,500Optional interest-free heat pump loan

Funding is capped by the eligible cost and current scheme rules. A grant does not automatically make the entire installation free, which is why a complete FLO quote remains important.

What the eligibility check cannot tell you

Funding eligibility does not establish heat loss, equipment size, radiator changes, cylinder space, electrical work or the final price. Those are property and design questions. Starting with FLO keeps the financial question connected to a system the team can actually specify and install.

See what a useful heat pump quote should include and how FLO moves from a quick first response to a property-specific proposal.

Who may need a different route?

Landlords, businesses, social housing tenants, self-builds, replacement heat pumps and households referred through other support programmes may face different rules or schemes. Speak to Home Energy Scotland about the live route for your circumstances, then bring FLO into the technical and quotation conversation.
