Answer first
The current Home Energy Scotland scheme offers up to £7,500 as a heat-pump grant and up to £7,500 as an optional interest-free loan, with a £1,500 grant uplift for eligible rural and island homes.
Compare those caps with an itemised whole-system quote covering the heat pump, cylinder, emitters, pipework, electrics, controls and installation. Do not subtract the headline grant from an incomplete equipment-only price.

FLO can discuss the property, prepare the installation route and keep the funding steps connected to the system you may actually buy.
Start with a complete project price
A heat pump is a heating-system project, not just an outdoor unit. Radiators, hot-water storage, pipework, electrical work and access can materially change the quote.
A low teaser price that excludes known necessities makes the apparent funding gap meaningless. Request an itemised surveyed proposal.
Grant and loan are different
The grant is non-repayable support within scheme rules. The optional loan must be repaid and is subject to affordability, credit and administrative conditions.
Choose the loan based on the household budget rather than treating all approved funding as a discount.
Eligibility and scope still matter
The current scheme supports a whole-house system providing heating and hot water and excludes hybrid heat pumps. Installer and product must meet MCS requirements.
Replacement heat pumps have different grant treatment. Always check the current official conditions for the particular project.
Use one funding-aware quote journey
A survey establishes what the home needs; the itemised quote supports the application; the written offer protects the funding position before installation starts.
Keeping those steps with one accountable installer reduces the risk of securing funding and then discovering the priced system was incomplete.
